Current Projects
School Partnerships for Global Literacy
TALICA supports the following schools on the island of Ometepe, Nicaragua through the purchasing of textbooks and other classroom aids. By providing the necessary tools to increase literacy and education, TALICA does not just address present concerns, but looks towards future generations as well.
2007 Teacher volunteer, Lisa Winters works with Mr. Ráxon sorting new materials.
We should never forget that schools are the hearts of communities. TALICA empowers educators and parents to dream what is possible for present day life and for future generations. Together, learning from each other, we will succeed in making dreams reality.
TALICA's newest project is Proyecto Mano Amigo-a new community center in Balgue, (see picture below!) on the island of Ometepe. This collaborative effort with U.S. NGO Project Bona Fide will provide a new community center with a nutritional program on the ground floor and a new TALICA community library on the second floor. When completed, this community center will be the "base" of information for Balgue, Ometepe, Nicaragua as well as many surrounding villages - well over 1000 children and parents.
Café Infantil is a nutritional program for the community of Balgue on the island of Ometepe, Nicaragua. TALICA helps with Project Bona Fide to remedy vitamin, mineral, and protein deficiencies for children. While TALICA does not support this program through funds, we bring the Book Mobile to Café Infantil to provide reading and story time! With a hard-boiled egg, a multi-vitamin, a toothbrush and paste, and books, children in Balgue are building a strong foundation for sustainable success for years to come.
