Destination Guatemala 2007

Our hearts were touched when we saw dedicated educators with crowded classrooms and very few teaching materials. We honor and respect these teachers.
To all the people who made this trip possible, thank you. Through your humble donations, we were able to show teachers and students the love for books. As Donald Graves says “We can’t tell children how to read; simply we have to show them.”

I am thankful for having the opportunity to go to Guatemala. The experience was moving and it touched my heart in many ways. Seeing the faces of children and teachers when they were given books and school supplies filled my heart with joy. I would love to go to Guatemala again to continue to help make a difference.

When I began my journey of creating TALICA I never imagined how the work would evolve with each trip.   I now know with most certainty that helping to bring books and information to fellow teachers and students in Central America is more important than ever if we want to build global communities that celebrate life long learning. When we take the time to notice, we will see that our world is truly blessed with amazing teachers and communities of learning.

I am deeply grateful for having this experience. I have a personal understanding of what new  English Language Learners might feel. I could see what sort of things I needed and wanted to learn, what came easily, and what was very hard in language learning. I also have an idea of what the living and learning conditions may have been for many of my Spanish speaking students. That was always a great unknown. This trip helps me to understand them.

Going to Guatemala was a wonderful life changing experience. I have done and seen so many things the average person would not see in a life time, and I am truly blessed and thankful to have taken part in this trip.
